Metal braces remain one of the most effective and predictable orthodontic treatment options for correcting a wide range of orthodontic concerns. Today’s metal braces are smaller, more comfortable, and more efficient than ever before, providing precise tooth movement while creating healthy, functional smiles.
Metal braces can successfully treat crowded teeth, spacing, crooked teeth, overbites, underbites, crossbites, open bites, impacted teeth, and more complex bite alignment issues. Because they remain securely attached throughout treatment, metal braces allow for continuous, controlled tooth movement and are an excellent option for children, teens, and adults.
At Nellie Gail Orthodontics, our board-certified orthodontists develop personalized treatment plans using advanced digital technology and comprehensive orthodontic evaluations. We proudly provide metal braces for patients throughout Aliso Viejo, Laguna Niguel, Laguna Hills, Lake Forest, Mission Viejo, Ladera Ranch, San Juan Capistrano, San Clemente, Dana Point, Irvine, Rancho Santa Margarita, and surrounding Orange County communities.

Metal Braces For Kids
Metal braces are a reliable orthodontic treatment option for children who are ready for comprehensive orthodontic care. They can effectively correct crowded teeth, spacing, bite problems, and developing alignment concerns while guiding the teeth into healthier positions as children continue to grow.
Every child develops differently, which is why our board-certified orthodontists carefully evaluate tooth eruption, jaw development, bite alignment, and facial growth before recommending treatment. For younger children, we also evaluate whether early orthodontic treatment (Phase I orthodontics) or continued observation is the most appropriate next step.
Many children enjoy choosing different colored elastic ties at each adjustment appointment, making braces a fun and personalized part of their orthodontic experience.

Phase 1 Treatment
Phase I orthodontic treatment, also known as early orthodontic treatment or interceptive orthodontics, focuses on guiding the growth and development of the teeth, jaws, and bite while a child is still growing. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children have their first orthodontic evaluation by age 7, allowing orthodontists to identify developing concerns early and determine whether treatment may be beneficial.
Not every child requires Phase I orthodontic treatment. When recommended, early treatment may help create space for erupting permanent teeth, guide jaw development, correct crossbites, reduce the risk of impacted teeth, improve bite relationships, and establish a healthier foundation for future orthodontic treatment.
For children with a narrow upper jaw, palatal expanders may be recommended as part of Phase I treatment. Expanders gradually widen the upper jaw during growth, creating additional space for developing teeth while improving arch development and correcting certain bite concerns. In appropriate patients, expansion may also support nasal breathing and healthy facial development as part of an airway-focused orthodontic approach.
At Nellie Gail Orthodontics, our board-certified orthodontists evaluate every child’s teeth, bite, jaw growth, facial development, and airway-related concerns before recommending treatment. Every treatment plan is individualized, and when appropriate, we work closely with other healthcare providers to support each child’s overall growth, development, and long-term oral health.
Metal Braces For Teens
Metal braces continue to be one of the most popular orthodontic treatment options for teenagers because they are durable, efficient, and highly effective for correcting a wide variety of orthodontic concerns.
Metal braces can successfully treat crowded teeth, spacing, crooked teeth, overbites, underbites, crossbites, open bites, impacted teeth, and other bite alignment issues. Teens can also personalize their braces by choosing different colored elastic ties at each adjustment appointment while receiving predictable, precise orthodontic treatment.

Metal Braces For Adults
Orthodontic treatment is becoming increasingly common among adults, and metal braces remain an excellent option for correcting both simple and complex orthodontic concerns. Modern metal braces are smaller and more comfortable than previous generations while providing precise tooth movement throughout treatment.
Metal braces can effectively treat crowded teeth, spacing, crooked teeth, overbites, underbites, crossbites, open bites, impacted teeth, and other bite alignment concerns. In addition to improving the appearance of your smile, orthodontic treatment can help create a healthier bite, improve chewing function, and make teeth easier to clean and maintain.
